Polk County has recorded its sixth fatal motorcycle collision of the year. Ricardo Uzai Bautista Ramirez, 28, of Lakeland, was killed in a motorcycle accident on K-Ville Avenue near Taylor Road in Winter Haven on April 29, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.​‍​​​​​‌​‌‍‌‌​‌​‍‍​‌​​​​‌‌‍‍​‌​‍‍​‌‌​​​‌​‍​‍​‍​‍‌​

Deputies are actively investigating the early morning crash. A 2019 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling east attempted a left turn into the westbound lane, striking the oncoming motorcycle nearly head-on.

The rider died from the impact despite wearing a helmet. Florida recorded 599 motorcycle death in 2024, maintaining its status as the deadliest state for riders.

The 33-year-old Auburndale man driving the pickup stopped and cooperated with authorities. He was not injured.

Emergency crews closed the westbound lane for more than two hours. Investigators do not suspect speed or impairment played a role.
