The early morning collision involving a pickup truck occurred between Deming Street and Spencerport Road

Scott Kruppenbacher, 31, of Greece, was killed in a motorcycle collision on Elmgrove Road in Gates, New York, on Monday, April 13, according to the Gates Police Department.

The early morning crash involved a pickup truck and occurred between Deming Street and Spencerport Road. The driver of the pickup was fully cooperative with the investigation.

Paramedics arrived shortly after 6:45 a.m. to find the rider unresponsive on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police secured a section of the road around the truck with crime tape. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the department.

The crash remains under investigation.

What factors are investigators examining on Elmgrove Road?

While the Gates Police Department works to determine exactly how the pickup and motorcycle collided, crash reconstructionists will analyze skid marks, vehicle damage, and right-of-way rules.

"When I hear about a rider lost at an intersection, it's usually because a driver simply didn't see them," said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. "Nearly half of all fatal motorcycle crashes happen because a car turns left directly into the rider's path."

Passenger vehicle drivers frequently fail to register smaller vehicles in their field of vision, especially during early morning hours. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, summer months account for approximately 61% of motorcycle deaths, but early morning commutes present unique lighting challenges.

How do visibility issues affect motorcycle collisions?

"Families are left with a hole in their lives when a rider is taken too soon," noted Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal"I've seen how target fixation causes drivers to look at a motorcycle without registering it's a threat."

For Kruppenbacher's family, the sudden loss of a loved one creates an immediate need for answers as the official investigation continues. Independent investigations often run parallel to law enforcement efforts to preserve critical evidence, such as electronic data from the pickup and witness statements from the morning commute.

New York wrongful death statute
