How the Chestnut Expressway Crash Unfolded
Officers were called to the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and West Bypass shortly before 9 p.m. Friday for a two-vehicle crash. Police said a 2016 Jeep Cherokee SUV was pulling out of a parking lot and turning west when it and an eastbound 2012 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle ridden by Brooks collided. Brooks was wearing a helmet, police said.
What Springfield Police Are Still Examining
The Springfield Police Department is still investigating the circumstances of the crash. Police encouraged anyone with information to call 417-864-1810 or to send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers. No charges have been announced.
Investigators write down the weather, lighting and road surface after every serious crash. Recording those details is routine and does not point to any single cause.

Here is what families in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
