Tanya Cypert Killed in Arlington Car Accident

Two teens charged with racing on a highway causing death following 100-mph collision
Tanya Cypert, 54, was killed in a car accident on South Cooper Street near Eden Road in Arlington, Texas, on March 6, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Adam Hamad, 18, and a juvenile male were arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and charged with racing on a highway causing death.
The northbound 2025 Mercedes-Benz driven by Hamad collided with a southbound 2022 Hyundai Tucson attempting a left turn. Airbag control module data showed the Mercedes was traveling over 100 mph in a 45-mph zone before the crash.
The 54-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where she died about an hour later. Her dog, which was in the vehicle, also died in the collision.
Witnesses reported the Mercedes and other vehicles were weaving through traffic and revving their engines prior to the wreck. The 18-year-old was treated at a hospital for injuries before his arrest.
The crash remains under investigation.
Families who lose loved ones to reckless driving face immense grief while working through the justice system. While criminal charges hold drivers accountable for racing on public roads, parallel civil claims provide a separate avenue for victims' families to seek justice.
How does street racing affect liability on South Cooper Street?
Detectives have already extracted data from the vehicle's airbag control module showing speeds exceeding 100 mph. This electronic evidence is important for both the criminal prosecution and any subsequent civil actions. National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, stated, "Nobody thinks about the physics of a crash until it's much too late to slow down. Research indicates that the speed differential between two vehicles is actually the strongest predictor of whether someone survives the collision."
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a cause in 29% of all traffic deaths in 2022.
Why are intersection collisions so dangerous?
The corner of South Cooper Street and Eden Road became the site of a serious collision when the speeding vehicle struck the turning SUV. National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, of Bond Legal, stated, "Losing someone at a busy intersection is a trauma that stays with a family forever. Left-turn crashes are a major problem, as they're responsible for over twenty-two percent of all fatal crossing accidents."
Individuals involved in fatal car accidents may have legal options. Consulting a personal injury attorney can help clarify rights and potential claims.
Texas wrongful death statute
Under Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 71.001, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Texas applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years.
Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship and consortium, funeral expenses, and mental anguish.
