The early morning crash occurred on Farm-to-Market Road 980 west of Onalaska

Dylan Tassin, 20, of Livingston, died Tuesday, March 24, in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Farm-to-Market Road 980 west of Onalaska, Texas, the Department of Public Safety said.

Tassin was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on Farm-to-Market Road 980, according to the DPS.

The pickup drifted out of its lane around 6:20 a.m. and veered off the right side of the road. The truck then flipped over.

How do fatal rollovers impact East Texas communities?

The sudden loss of a 20-year-old community member like Dylan Tassin leaves Livingston families and friends searching for answers regarding systemic regional crash patterns. While the exact cause of his rollover is being investigated, it is important that a competent attorney handles independent investigations into Tassin's crash to ensure the rights of his family are protected.

National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that "In single-vehicle rollover accidents, investigators must look beyond driver error to examine potential mechanical failures, tire blowouts, or roadway defects that may have forced the vehicle off the pavement."

What systemic factors contribute to regional rural crashes?

Rural two-lane roads often lack the safety shoulders and rumble strips found on major highways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rural areas account for a disproportionate number of fatal single-vehicle crashes nationwide. Evaluating these systemic road hazards is vital for understanding the factors that forced Tassin's Ford F-150 off Farm-to-Market Road 980.

National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal, noted that "When analyzing fatal rollover accidents, independent reconstructionists can secure the vehicle's event data recorder and evaluate a crash site for contributing environmental factors before evidence is lost to weather or road maintenance."

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to piece together the timeline of the early morning crash.
