How do intersection mechanics contribute to delivery vehicle crashes?

When passenger vehicles and delivery trucks handle residential intersections like Larkspur Terrace and Iris Lane, turning maneuvers frequently create conflict points. The differing weight distribution and higher center of gravity in mail carriers and step-vans make them particularly susceptible to rollovers when struck from the side by turning traffic.

In vehicle collisions such as this, crash reconstructionists examine the turning vehicle's speed, the angle of impact, and right-of-way rules. National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. "Vehicle crashes are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents. A skilled attorney can protect victims from insurance companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize to defend a negligent driver. Your lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process."

What does Georgia data show about delivery truck risks?

Delivery routes through residential neighborhoods present unique hazards. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, large trucks are involved in over 25,000 crashes statewide each year, with heavier vehicles being 4.5 times more likely to cause serious or fatal outcomes when colliding with passenger cars.

National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal, noted that "Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and victims must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner. In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide accident victims during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights and best interests."

While DeKalb County Police continue to investigate the sequence of events that led to the passenger vehicle striking the USPS truck, investigators will review physical evidence, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage from nearby homes.
