Tracey Yost Killed in Colorado Springs Pedestrian Accident
The fatal collision occurred at North Powers and Palmer Park boulevards
Tracey Yost, 40, was killed in a pedestrian crash at North Powers Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard on Aug. 7, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
A northbound Chevy Silverado pickup truck struck the woman as she crossed the intersection just before 5 a.m. Investigators stated that speed and alcohol do not appear to be cause. Yost was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office formally identified her on Monday.
The department's Major Crash Team continues to investigate the collision.
This incident marks the 39th traffic-related death in the city this year, up from 34 deaths at the same time last year.
The family of Yost is now facing a sudden and tragic loss following this fatal collision. While the official investigation continues, independent analysis is often required to determine right-of-way and liability at complex intersections.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 78 pedestrian fatalities occurred in the dark in 2024, representing 65% of pedestrian deaths that year.

Under C.R.S. § 13-21-201, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Colorado applies modified comparative fault (50% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
