Walter Foran Injured in Lafourche Parish Motorcycle Accident

The 73-year-old motorcyclist was struck by a vehicle that failed to yield on Louisiana Highway 308
Walter Foran, 73, of Raceland, was injured in a motorcycle accident on Louisiana Highway 308 near Triple Oaks Drive in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, on April 17, according to the State Police.
paramedics arrived at the scene after a car attempting to turn onto the highway crossed into the northbound lanes. The motorcycle collided with the turning vehicle, which had failed to yield the right of way.
Paramedics transported Foran, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the car was not hurt.
Investigators do not suspect impairment played a role in the collision. The crash remains under investigation.
Why did the car fail to yield on Louisiana Highway 308?
While the exact circumstances of the turning maneuver remain under review, failure to yield is a leading cause of intersection and turning collisions. Investigators will likely examine sightlines, vehicle speeds, and driver distraction to determine why the car pulled into the motorcycle's path.

"In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney will carefully examine what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide accident victims during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights and best interests."
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the state recorded more than 42,000 injury crashes in 2022, with failure to yield frequently cited as a primary factor.
What are the legal options for injured motorcyclists?
Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to severe injuries when other drivers fail to observe right-of-way rules. When a driver's negligence results in a collision, the injured party often faces mounting medical bills and extended recovery times.
National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. "An incident is considered a personal injury when either a person or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act resulting in a person's injuries, When vehicle accidents result from unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, victims usually are left with the option to pursue a civil action."
Authorities have not announced any citations as the investigation continues.
Louisiana personal injury framework
Louisiana follows a pure comparative fault system. The statute of limitations is 1 year — one of the shortest in the nation.
Damages include economic and non-economic losses. The short prescriptive period makes timely legal consultation particularly pressing.
