Xavier Joshua Strunk Killed in St. Pete Motorcycle Accident

The Pinellas Park resident died after a pickup truck failed to yield the right of way at 21st Avenue North
Xavier Joshua Strunk, 22, of Pinellas Park, was killed in a motorcycle crash at 21st Avenue North and Tyrone Boulevard North in St. Petersburg on June 2, according to police.
A white Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling eastbound attempted to make a left turn and crossed into the path of a southbound black and gray Suzuki GSX-R600, investigators said. The truck driver failed to yield the right of way, causing the collision.
Strunk was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The crash remains under investigation.
The sudden loss of a young life leaves families and communities searching for answers. For the family of Strunk, the emotional and financial toll of this fatal collision is life-altering.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Failure to yield is among the most commonly cited driver errors in motorcycle fatality investigations involving left turns at controlled and uncontrolled intersections alike. When a driver proceeds without confirming an oncoming rider has sufficient space to pass safely, the consequences are frequently catastrophic."
Attorneys handling these serious matters carefully evaluate traffic signal timing data, witness accounts, vehicle damage patterns, and available surveillance footage to construct an accurate account of what occurred and to pursue full accountability on behalf of affected families, added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
Why did the pickup truck fail to yield on 21st Avenue North?
Left-turn collisions account for much of motorcycle deaths in Florida. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, left-turn-across-path crashes resulted in 893 motorcycle deaths in the state between 2011 and 2019.
While police investigate the exact sequence of events at the corner of Tyrone Boulevard North, independent investigations often reveal critical details about driver attention and intersection visibility.
What are the legal options for the family of Strunk?
When a driver fails to yield the right of way, surviving family members often face complex insurance claims and liability assessments.
"Legal counsel provides compassionate guidance to families facing heartbreak, protecting rights while ensuring accountability when drivers ignore traffic laws, helping survivors navigate complex challenges after devastating motorcycle collisions," noted Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.
Florida wrongful death statute
Under Fla. Stat. § 768.16-768.26, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Florida applies modified comparative fault (51% bar). The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.
Recoverable damages may include loss of support and services, loss of companionship, mental pain and suffering of survivors, and medical/funeral expenses.
