All 10 people were transported to a local hospital, where they are expected to recover. Emergency crews worked to clear debris from the road following the crash.

The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. after a driver fled an attempted traffic stop, leading to a brief pursuit before colliding with the other vehicles.

The suspect, who was also hospitalized for treatment, faces charges including felony evading and nine counts of driving under the influence, Lt. Michael Pierce said. The driver also had outstanding felony warrants and will be booked into jail upon medical clearance.

The crash remains under investigation.

How does a felony evading charge impact the Fresno crash investigation?

While the criminal case against the fleeing driver proceeds, investigators will examine the crash scene at Olive and Maple avenues to document the sequence of impacts that injured the 10 victims.

"Here's what many people don't realize about the aftermath of a drunk driving crash in the middle of the night. Alcohol makes drivers reckless, often causing them to speed through red lights without ever touching the brakes," said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

The crash adds to a persistent safety challenge across the state. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, 1,355 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes statewide in 2023, representing nearly one-third of all traffic deaths.

What are the legal options for the injured minors and other passengers?

The 10 victims recovering from this multi-vehicle collision face mounting medical bills and a complex recovery process. Insurance adjusters often contact injured parties within days of a crash, before the full extent of medical costs and long-term impacts are known.

"Trying to put your life back together after being hit by a drunk driver is an incredibly heavy burden," said Stefano Formica, Of Bond Legal"Crash reconstructionists don't just rely on blood tests; they look at lane drift patterns to prove a driver was impaired."

California personal injury framework

California follows a pure comparative fault system. Injured parties may recover damages reduced by their percentage of fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of the crash.

Damages include economic losses (medical bills, lost income, rehabilitation) and non-economic losses (pain, suffering, emotional distress).
