What Happened on SR 24 Near Othello

The collision happened Thursday morning near milepost 53, a remote stretch of eastern Grant County about 20 miles west of Othello. The crash involved a semi-truck and a work bus. The State Patrol District 6 public information officer first announced the crash on social media just after 7 a.m. and called it a critical incident. The State Patrol has not said how badly the 11 people were hurt.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the SR 24 Response Stands

State Route 24 was fully blocked in the area, and troopers had given no estimate for when it would reopen. Drivers were told to stay away and to plan for delays. The State Patrol said it would share more updates.

Investigators work quickly at the scene because marks on the road and other evidence fade fast. Much of the slower work happens later, away from the scene.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Washington usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
