Three children injured after oncoming driver crosses center line on Mountain View Road
Ashley Lopez, 37, of Desert Hot Springs, was killed in a three-vehicle crash at Mountain View Road and Club House Drive in Garnet on July 23, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Investigators are working to determine why a northbound driver veered into the southbound lanes and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. The impact sparked a fire that engulfed two of the cars, prompting a temporary closure of the road as firefighters extinguished the flames.
Three children riding in the vehicle driven by Lopez were transported to a local hospital. Two suffered moderate to major injuries, while the third suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line suffered major injuries and remains hospitalized.
No charges have been announced as the crash remains under investigation.
