How the Dandridge Motorcycle Crash Unfolded

Deputies went to French Broad Baptist church at about 2:46 p.m. after a call about a woman hurt in a motorcycle crash. Her husband told deputies she had phoned him to say she had been thrown from her motorcycle, and he had been unable to find her at the church. The sheriff's office said church surveillance footage showed the motorcycle heading east toward a neighboring cemetery and hitting a tombstone. The office said the motorcycle then went about 50 feet, became airborne and came to rest roughly 25 feet down an embankment near the lake bottom.

Deputies found Cadabay with life-threatening injuries at the bottom of the embankment. Jefferson County EMS, the Jefferson County Rescue Squad and the Dandridge Fire Department gave emergency care and helped bring her up. She was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and died there.

What the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Has Shared

The sheriff's office reviewed the church video as part of its work on the crash. It has not announced any charges. The office also offered condolences to Cadabay's family and loved ones on social media.

Vehicles from a serious crash are often towed to a secure lot and held for inspection. That is a standard step, and the vehicles can be held for weeks.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Tennessee usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
