Brownsville, TexasPublished 1 min read

Daniel A. Morin, 24, was killed in a car crash on Coffee Road in Brownsville on October 13, according to Brownsville police.

What Happened on Coffee Road

Officers responded at 9:10 p.m. to the 2300 block of Coffee Road after a two-vehicle collision involving a white Chevrolet Suburban and a gray Hyundai Elantra. Preliminary information indicates the Elantra was exiting a private driveway and heading eastbound when it collided with the westbound Suburban. Morin, who was driving the Elantra, was reported in critical condition and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Two other individuals were also taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

What Makes Impaired-Driving Crashes So Dangerous

According to IIHS, in 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities. The crash occurred at night on a road where a vehicle was entering from a private driveway. Impaired driving removes a driver's ability to respond to sudden changes in road conditions. Slowed reflexes and reduced judgment make it far harder to avoid a collision, and the results are frequently fatal.

An impaired-driving crash tends to follow a recognizable pattern: excessive speed, delayed braking, and reactions that arrive too late to matter. Slowed reflexes, poor judgment, and reduced vision are the predictable effects that turn a routine moment into a collision.
