How the US-601 Crash in Kershaw Unfolded

The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday in the Kershaw area. Investigators said the 2019 Toyota sedan was going north on US-601, called Kershaw Camden Highway in that stretch, when it left the road to the right near Hal Williams Road and struck a tree. Agudo Jarquin died at the scene. He lived out of state and was in South Carolina for work when the crash happened.

Where the Highway Patrol Investigation Stands

State troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are looking into the crash. No charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators write down the weather, lighting and road surface after every serious crash. Recording those details is routine and does not point to any single cause.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in South Carolina usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
