How the Crash on Northbound I-35W Unfolded

Officers responded to the crash at about 4:22 a.m. Monday. Police said the pickup truck's adult male driver died at the scene after being pronounced dead there. Police said the person in the tractor-trailer came away uninjured. Police said the pickup truck had extensive front-end damage after it collided with a stationary 18-wheeler near Bethesda Road.

Where the Burleson Police Investigation Stands

Police said they are still investigating what caused the crash, and no determination has been made about contributing factors. Police have not released the man's name while they wait to confirm that his next of kin have been notified. Northbound I-35W traffic was sent to the service road at Bethesda Road while the entrance ramp there was shut. The Texas Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.

Police usually wait to release the names of the people involved until their families have been told. That is why names often come out a day or more later.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in Texas usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
