Driver Killed in Harris County Car Accident
The driver has been identified as Laine Cramer, who died at a hospital after a crash on the North Freeway near Spring.
Laine Cramer was killed in a car crash on the North Freeway in Harris County on Sunday, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
What Happened on the North Freeway
At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 18200 block of the freeway, close to Parramatta Lane. The Sheriff's Office said Cramer was behind the wheel of a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta heading south. According to the Sheriff's Office, the front of the car struck several delineators and an impact attenuator before the car spun on the roadway. The Sheriff's Office said a 2025 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Jesus Duarte, then hit the right side of the Volkswagen. Cramer was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Where the Sheriff's Office Investigation Stands
The Sheriff's Office said its Vehicular Crimes Division is handling the investigation, which is still ongoing. Authorities said Duarte showed no signs of intoxication and was released from the scene. All southbound lanes, which had been shut down, have since reopened.
Investigators work quickly at the scene because marks on the road and other evidence fade fast. Much of the slower work happens later, away from the scene.

Here is what families in Texas usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
