The Morning Collision on Dublin Boulevard

The crash happened at about 8:37 a.m. on Dublin Boulevard, west of Silvergate Drive. Police said a Rivian SUV and an eastbound Hyundai Sonata driven by Sun collided head-on. Both cars left the roadway and overturned, coming to rest along the north shoulder of westbound Interstate 580. Police said both drivers were injured and brought to a local hospital. Sun died there at about 2:02 p.m. the same day, and the other driver was treated and released. Neither car carried passengers.

Where the Dublin Police Investigation Stands

Dublin Police Services responded at about 8:54 a.m. after the California Highway Patrol alerted officers. Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. William Chase of Dublin police.

Police usually wait to release the names of the people involved until their families have been told. That is why names often come out a day or more later.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
