The rider has been identified as Eestan Starkey, 21, of Zanesville, who was struck on Adams Lane near Somers Street around 6:00 p.m.
Eestan Starkey, 21, of Zanesville, was killed in a motorcycle crash on Adams Lane near Somers Street in Zanesville on October 13, according to the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol.
How the Adams Lane Crash Unfolded
Troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:00 p.m. A 2007 Toyota Yaris was traveling south on Adams Lane when, while negotiating a curve, it traveled off the road and crossed the centerline. The Yaris struck a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle that was traveling north on Adams Lane. Starkey, the rider, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Agencies that responded included the Falls Township Fire Department, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, the Muskingum County Coroner, the Zanesville Police Department, and the Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office.
Why Motorcycle Crashes Turn So Severe
According to NHTSA, U.S. motorcyclists accounted for 16% of all traffic deaths in 2024. The crash involved a motorcycle and a passenger car on a curved stretch of road. Motorcycle crashes turn severe fast because there is no frame, no airbag, and little margin. A rider thrown from the bike takes the full force of the road, even at moderate speed. Curves add a further challenge, as a motorcycle's smaller profile can make it harder to spot in the moment before a collision.
Where the Investigation Stands
The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been announced, and no crash report has been made public. Investigators have not released information about the driver of the Yaris.
After a motorcycle crash, investigators study camera footage, witness accounts, and the final resting positions of the vehicles to piece together what each party could see and do before impact.
