A 2025 Nissan Altima attempted to negotiate a curve on Sandy Springs Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. when it ran off the road. The vehicle drove through a yard before crashing head-on into a tree.

Troup, who was riding as a passenger, was killed in the crash. The 29-year-old driver of the Altima was injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash. Charges could be filed against the driver pending the outcome of the investigation, the Highway Patrol reported.

Run-off-road collisions at rural intersections frequently result in severe trauma for passengers who have no control over the vehicle. When a passenger is killed due to a driver's failure to maintain their lane, the victim's family is left facing complex liability frameworks.

While the Highway Patrol continues to investigate the exact cause of the Springfield crash, independent reviews often examine vehicle speed, driver impairment, and road conditions. Families of victims frequently require professional guidance to preserve evidence, such as the vehicle's event data recorder, before it is destroyed or lost.

Under Tenn. Code § 20-5-106, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. Tennessee applies modified comparative fault (50% bar). The statute of limitations is 1 year.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship, funeral expenses, and mental anguish.
