Fleeing driver crosses center line, strikes Ford Expedition on Maynardville Pike
Tennessee recorded 1,323 traffic fatalities in 2023, a persistently high toll that includes a recent fatal collision in Knox County.
Theresa Black, 24, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Maynardville Pike on July 17, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
A southbound Ford Expedition was struck head-on by a northbound Jeep Laredo that crossed the center line while fleeing from state troopers. The driver of the Expedition attempted to avoid the collision by swerving onto the shoulder but was unable to escape the impact.
Black, who was a passenger in the Expedition, died from her injuries. The driver of the Expedition was injured and received medical treatment.
The driver of the fleeing Jeep, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was also killed in the wreck. The highway patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and the resulting crash.
