Hallyenangel Hance Route Injured in Silver Falls Accident
Passenger hospitalized with serious injuries after speeding vehicle strikes tree and catches fire on Highway 214
Hallyenangel Marie Hance Route, 24, of Salem, was seriously injured in a fatal car accident on Highway 214 near Silver Falls, Oregon, early April 29, according to the State Police.
The crash remains under investigation by troopers who responded to the scene at 1:52 a.m. A southbound Subaru left the road near milepost 22, struck a tree, and plunged down an embankment before catching fire.
Hance Route, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate excessive speed played a role in the wreck, authorities said. Emergency crews, including the Oregon Department of Transportation and Drakes Crossing Fire Department, closed the highway for approximately five hours during the response.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a primary factor in more than 12,000 traffic deaths nationwide in 2022.
