What Happened on Route 208 in Fair Lawn

The collision took place in the northbound lanes of Route 208 a short distance south of Morlot Avenue. The front end of the ambulance was heavily damaged. Only the right lane stayed open through the scene and for a stretch of road before it, the photographer said.

Someone was reported hurt, but it was unclear at first whether that person was an EMT, a patient or another person in the crash, according to the photographer. Another ambulance from the same company came to the scene and later drove off with its lights and siren running. A tow truck hauled the damaged ambulance off the highway.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in New Jersey usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
