30-year-old faces charges of serious injury by vehicle following head-on collision on Reed Creek Highway
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspected DUI charges after a car accident that injured another driver on Reed Creek Highway near Tahoe Drive in Hart County, Georgia, on Thursday, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Joshua Anderson Sherrill faces charges of driving under the influence, failure to maintain a lane and serious injury by vehicle. Deputies said he admitted to consuming alcohol before the wreck.
Sherrill was driving a 2020 Subaru Outback northbound when he crossed into the southbound lane at approximately 10:45 p.m. and struck a 2017 Ford Edge. Following the impact, one of the vehicles became fully engulfed in flames.
Paramedics transported both drivers to a local hospital for treatment. Hart County Fire and EMS crews assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the name or condition of the Ford Edge driver.
While criminal charges hold impaired drivers accountable to the state, victims often face a separate battle to recover from physical and financial losses. The criminal proceedings establish fault, but they do not automatically compensate the injured parties for their medical bills or vehicle replacement.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News, said, "Investigators examining serious crashes often note how impairment magnifies risk. Reduced awareness, slower reflexes, and poor judgment combine to create collisions that are more severe, more unpredictable, and more likely to result in tragic outcomes."

What are the legal options for the injured Ford Edge driver?
Stefano Formica, who serves as a national legal analyst for Accident News and is of counsel at Bond Legal, noted, "Victims of drunk driving accidents have the right to pursue a civil lawsuit independent of the criminal proceedings, allowing them to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress."
Georgia personal injury and DUI liability
Injured parties typically have two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury lawsuit in Georgia. Compensation categories can include past and future medical bills, rehabilitation costs, property damage, and pain and suffering.
