Keaton Degeyter Killed in Hardin County Car Accident
Wrong-way Dodge Ram strikes Ford Focus head-on near Overstreet Loop
Keaton Degeyter, 24, of Village Mills, was killed early Saturday when a wrong-way pickup truck struck his car head-on along U.S. Highway 69 in Hardin County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The southbound 2017 Ford Focus collided with a 2017 Dodge Ram that was driving north in the southbound lanes near Overstreet Loop at approximately 3:55 a.m. The impact crushed the front ends of both vehicles.
A justice of the peace pronounced the driver of the Ford dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram was taken to a nearby hospital with suspected minor injuries.
The crash adds to a persistent toll across the state, where TxDOT data shows 4,150 traffic death occurred last year.
The Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances that led the pickup to enter opposing traffic.

Investigators will examine roadway markings, lighting conditions, and toxicology reports to determine why the Dodge Ram was driving north in the southbound lanes near Overstreet Loop.
