Lexington, WashingtonPublished 1 min read

A pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run on West Side Highway in Lexington on Wednesday evening, according to the Washington State Patrol.

How the West Side Highway Crash Unfolded

The Washington State Patrol identified the pedestrian as Nicholas Dryden, 35, of Kelso. The State Patrol said Dryden was walking southbound on the right shoulder of West Side Highway, just before the Lexington Bridge. An unknown vehicle struck him at about 8:22 p.m. near milepost 4. The State Patrol said the vehicle kept going southbound without stopping. First responders arrived to find Dryden injured, but he was not taken to a hospital.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the State Patrol Search Stands

The Washington State Patrol said troopers have not listed any possible suspects. No charges have been announced, and the driver of the vehicle has not been identified.

Hit-and-run investigations can stay open for months. Some are solved long after the crash, when a new tip or piece of video comes in.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Washington usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
