Kendra L. Hatzinger Injured in Annsville Car Accident

Passenger hospitalized with head lacerations after pickup truck strikes tree on Route 69
Kendra L. Hatzinger, 37, of Annsville, was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Route 69 in Annsville, New York, on Tuesday, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department.
A westbound 2016 GMC Sierra veered off the northern shoulder of the road and collided with a tree shortly after 9 p.m. Rescuers airlifted the driver to SUNY Upstate Hospital via a Lifenet helicopter, while an Amcare ambulance transported the passenger.
Hatzinger, a passenger in the pickup truck, suffered lacerations to her head in the collision. Authorities indicated the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The crash remains under investigation. Crews closed the highway for several hours before reopening lanes to traffic.
According to the National Safety Council, 5.1 million medically consulted injuries resulted from motor vehicle crashes nationwide in 2023.
Why did the GMC Sierra leave Route 69?
Investigators are working to determine why the pickup truck drifted off the highway. In single-vehicle accidents such as this, crash reconstructionists often examine whether weather-related factors, such as wet pavement or poor visibility, contributed to the loss of control.
Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Excessive speed in single-vehicle crashes reduces reaction capacity and increases rollover risk significantly. When vehicles leave roads at high velocities, multiple systems fail simultaneously."
"Legal counsel moves swiftly to secure event data recorders, surveillance footage, and crash reconstruction experts who analyze speed indicators, skid patterns, and vehicle dynamics to establish causation and protect injured victims," added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.
What are the legal options for injured passengers?
When a driver fails to maintain control of a vehicle, injured passengers may have grounds to seek compensation through the driver's insurance policy. Individuals involved in car accident incidents may have legal options. Consulting a personal injury attorney can help clarify rights and potential claims.
Passengers like Hatzinger often face significant medical bills and recovery time for injuries sustained in crashes they did not cause.
New York personal injury framework
New York follows a pure comparative fault system with no-fault auto insurance. The statute of limitations is 3 years.
Under New York's no-fault system, PIP benefits cover medical expenses and lost wages up to $50,000 regardless of fault. To pursue a liability claim, injuries must meet the 'serious injury' threshold under Insurance Law § 5102(d).
According to Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, "After accidents, calculating losses includes more than initial medical treatment. Physical rehabilitation, ongoing medical care, lost wages, and earning capacity losses accumulate."
"An attorney ensures injured people understand complete damages and pursues compensation reflecting both present and future financial impacts," added Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News.
