Luis Cisneros Fletes Killed in Waterbury Car Accident

The crash occurred on Chase Avenue and left several others injured
Luis Cisneros Fletes, 18, of Waterbury, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Chase Avenue early Sunday, according to the Waterbury Police Department.
A Subaru Legacy and a Mazda struck each other, leaving both vehicles with heavy, disabling damage. Fletes, who was riding in the Mazda, died from his injuries. The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. Another passenger in that vehicle is stable.
Three others were hurt. The driver and two passengers in the Subaru were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The department's Crash Reconstruction Unit is handling the ongoing investigation.
Why are independent investigations necessary?
Andrew G. Finkelstein, managing partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices and a national legal analyst for Accident News, said, "When analyzing fatal car accident patterns, independent probes are essential to preserve perishable evidence, such as skid marks that can wash away, and to secure witness statements before memories fade."
What happens next in the crash investigation?
Connecticut wrongful death statute
"In wrongful death cases, families often face immediate financial burdens, making it crucial to identify all liable parties and available insurance coverages early in the process," Finkelstein added.
Eligible damages in these claims can include compensation for funeral expenses, medical bills incurred prior to death, and the loss of the deceased's earning capacity. Families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit under the state's statute of limitations.
