The three-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. Highway 59 north of Farm-to-Market Road 223
Maria Tello, 61, of New Caney, was injured in a three-vehicle car accident on U.S. Highway 59 north of Farm-to-Market Road 223 in San Jacinto County, Texas, on Sunday, March 29, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A southbound Nissan Sentra traveling the wrong way in the northbound lanes struck an oncoming Chevrolet Camaro head-on at approximately 10:29 p.m. Following the initial impact, a northbound 2026 Hyundai Venue rear-ended the Chevrolet.

The 36-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was taken to HCA Conroe with possible life-threatening injuries. The wrong-way driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
How does a crash impact recovery for victims like Tello?
Investigators are working to determine the full sequence of events that led to Tello's injuries in the collision. National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal"When assessing victim impact and recovery trajectory after a multi-vehicle sequence, it is vital to document how secondary impacts uniquely affect a survivor like Tello."
Wrong-way driving crashes result in 300 to 400 deaths annually in the United States, according to the Federal Highway Administration. These crashes have a disproportionately high rate of severe injuries compared to other types of collisions.
What factors dictate a victim's healing process?
Multi-vehicle collisions often leave families dealing with unexpected medical expenses and complex insurance claims. National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal"To properly support Tello's specific recovery trajectory, determining liability across each distinct impact is critical so she can access the appropriate insurance coverage for her ongoing treatment."
Tello, injured by a wrong-way driver's actions, may have grounds to seek compensation for hospital bills, rehabilitation, and lost wages through a personal injury claim.
Allocating liability in multi-vehicle collisions
As long as a victim's share of fault does not exceed 50%, they retain the right to seek compensation. Recoverable damages for injured parties often include emergency medical expenses, ongoing physical therapy, lost earning capacity, and compensation for physical pain and mental anguish.
