How the Summit Valley Road Crash Unfolded

The collision was reported around 9:05 a.m., close to Trout Road. California Highway Patrol logs said the motorcycle ran into the rear of a gray Toyota sedan. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest several feet away, while the white and black sport-style motorcycle with teal wheels lay on its side in the roadway. Firefighters from San Bernardino County arrived and called for a medical helicopter. The rider was brought to the Hesperia Airport helipad and flown from there to a trauma center outside the area. The highway patrol logs noted that the rider had a head injury, and the rider's identity has not been released.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

What the Victorville CHP Station Is Reviewing

Investigators with the Victorville station of the California Highway Patrol are looking into the crash. The highway patrol has not released any update on the rider's condition. No charges have been announced.

Investigators write down the weather, lighting and road surface after every serious crash. Recording those details is routine and does not point to any single cause.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
