The Night of the Kearny Mesa Road Crash

The crash happened at about 9 p.m. in the 4100 block of Kearny Mesa Road. Police said the man was riding a black and gray 2022 Yamaha MT-07 southbound. Police said the motorcycle drifted to the right and went over the south curb at the intersection with Othello Avenue. It then hit the base of a streetlight pole, and a small tree was knocked down. The rider was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, the department reported.

What the San Diego Police Are Asking For

Police said the reasons for the motorcycle leaving the road are undetermined. San Diego police asked people who know anything about the crash to call the department or Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at 888-580-8477.

Roads are often closed for hours after a serious crash so investigators can measure and photograph the scene before anything is moved.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
