Investigators will examine the turning radius of the commercial vehicle and the passing maneuver of the motorcycle to determine liability. Commercial vehicle crashes often require extensive evidence collection, including fleet maintenance logs and driver hours-of-service records.

National Legal Analyst Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. "In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from a crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently."

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the state recorded 2,523 motorcycle crashes in 2023, resulting in 2,009 injuries.

How do commercial fleet policies impact injured riders?

Victims facing severe injuries often encounter aggressive defense tactics from corporate insurance adjusters within days of a crash.

According to National Legal Analyst Stefano Formica, of Bond Legal"Victims should seek legal guidance when pursuing a personal injury case, which allows them to handle insurance communications and protect a victim's rights. Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly."

Commercial vehicles are subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, which mandate higher insurance coverage limits than standard passenger vehicles.

Missouri personal injury framework

Missouri follows a pure comparative fault system. The statute of limitations is 5 years — one of the longest in the nation.

Damages include economic and non-economic losses.
