The Night Crash on Northeast Columbia Boulevard
Officers responded to the crash at Northeast Columbia Boulevard and Northeast 46th Avenue. The motorcyclist died at the scene, according to police. The van driver remained at the scene and was not injured, officials said.
Where the Portland Police Bureau Investigation Stands
The Portland Police Bureau said its Major Crash Team is investigating at the scene. Northeast Columbia Boulevard was closed in both directions between the 4400 block and Northeast 47th Avenue. Officials did not immediately release additional information.
Investigators work quickly at the scene because marks on the road and other evidence fade fast. Much of the slower work happens later, away from the scene.

Here is what families in Oregon usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
