Olivier Carmelo Sgarlata, 1, of San Jose, was killed in a pedestrian accident in the 2100 block of Canoas Garden Avenue in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, on Tuesday, April 21, according to the San Jose Police Department.
A gray 2021 Toyota minivan operating as an Airport Taxi Cab was driving north in the driveway of a townhome complex when it struck the child, who was walking in the parking area.
Paramedics rushed the toddler to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
the crash marks the city's 16th traffic-related death and seventh pedestrian death of the year.
