Pablo A. Hermoso Killed in Hesperia Motorcycle Accident

Pablo A. Hermoso fatal motorcycle accident on Choiceana Avenue, Hesperia, California

The 47-year-old Apple Valley resident died after his motorcycle collided with a sedan at Choiceana Avenue

Pablo A. Hermoso, 47, of Apple Valley, was killed and his passenger was injured in a motorcycle crash at Choiceana Avenue and Live Oak Street in Hesperia, California, on Thursday, according to the Sheriff's Department.‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌

Paramedics transported both riders to local hospitals with major injuries, where the man, Hermoso, later died. The silver Infiniti sedan sustained heavy passenger-side damage and deployed side-curtain airbags, while the blue Yamaha motorcycle suffered catastrophic front-end damage.

Investigators determined the motorcycle was driving northbound on a road with no stop signs when it collided with the sedan in the intersection. Traffic on the intersecting street is controlled by a two-way stop.

The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and is cooperating with deputies.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hesperia Sheriff's Station.

What is the status of the injured passenger?

The 44-year-old female passenger remains hospitalized with major injuries following the collision. For victims and their families, the physical and emotional toll of a catastrophic crash is life-altering.

Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal, said, "Unsafe lane changes are a leading cause of serious motorcycle collisions, often because a driver never checked a blind spot before moving over. Riders have almost no margin for error when a vehicle drifts into a lane without warning."

A legal team can reconstruct vehicle movements using electronic data and roadway footage, building a clear picture of how a crash unfolded for surviving relatives, added Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident News.

Why did the vehicles collide at Choiceana Avenue and Live Oak Street?

While the cause and liability of a crash are being investigated, authorities noted that traffic on Live Oak Street is controlled by stop signs, whereas Choiceana Avenue is not. In motorcycle accidents such as this, investigators carefully review right-of-way violations and intersection geometry.

"An attorney handling serious motorcycle crash cases works quickly to gather traffic camera footage and secure witness statements. Physical evidence must be preserved before conditions change and the factual record becomes harder to reconstruct," Stefano Formica, a national legal analyst for Accident News and of counsel at Bond Legal.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists accounted for 15% of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2023, highlighting the extreme vulnerability of riders when other vehicles fail to yield.

California wrongful death statute

Under Cal. Code Civ. Proc. § 377.60, surviving family members may file a wrongful death action. California applies pure comparative fault. The statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of death.

Recoverable damages may include loss of financial support, loss of companionship, funeral expenses, and the decedent's pre-death pain and suffering.
