The Sunday Night Motorcycle Crash in Cabot

Jasmine Hudgings was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her boyfriend at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday. Mark Hudgings said a white truck turned left from Quail Trail toward town and into the path of the motorcycle. He said the couple tried to steer around the truck but were thrown from the motorcycle and ended up in a ditch. According to Mark Hudgings, the truck driver left the scene.

He said his daughter suffered a broken left femur, several broken bones in her ankle and severe knee damage. Surgeons at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences saved her leg, he said. The boyfriend had less serious injuries and went home from the hospital the same night.

Help for people affected by a crash is below.

Where the Arkansas State Police Inquiry Stands

Mark Hudgings said Arkansas State Police is handling the inquiry, which is still open. He described the truck as a newer white four-door pickup that may have damage near the rear driver's side and a bug guard on the front. He said his daughter is expected to stay in the hospital for at least another week, with months of recovery ahead. He asked anyone who saw the crash or recognizes the truck to contact Arkansas State Police.

Hit-and-run investigations can stay open for months. Some are solved long after the crash, when a new tip or piece of video comes in.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Arkansas usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
