The Monday Morning Strike on I-71 South
Around 6:10 a.m., Columbus Division of Police officers were dispatched to I-71 South at East Long Street, a city public safety dispatcher said. According to the dispatcher, a vehicle hit a pedestrian, and the person was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The pedestrian has not been named. All lanes of I-71 South were briefly closed between I-670 and East Broad Street.
Where the Columbus Police Response Stands
A dispatcher said that stretch of highway has since reopened. The number of vehicles involved has not been announced. No cause has been released, and no charges have been announced.
Investigators work quickly at the scene because marks on the road and other evidence fade fast. Much of the slower work happens later, away from the scene.
