How the Route 93 Pedestrian Crash Unfolded

Troopers said the crash happened at about 7 p.m. near milepost 26. According to troopers, a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup was heading north when it hit the two people on foot as they crossed the road. Troopers said Coon refused treatment at the scene.

Jackson County EMS took the child from the scene, and a Medflight helicopter then carried the child to a hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. Troopers said the child's injuries were not life-threatening. The truck's 69-year-old driver and its passenger reported no injuries.

What Is Next in the Jackson Post Investigation

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Jackson Post is handling the investigation. The Wellston Police Department and Jackson County EMS helped at the scene. Authorities said the crash remains under investigation, and the patrol encouraged anyone with more information to contact the Jackson Post.

Police usually wait to release the names of the people involved until their families have been told. That is why names often come out a day or more later.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Ohio usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
