When I-459 Reopens Near Exit 13B

Northbound I-459 was shut down near Exit 13B after the crashes. Hoover Police said the road was expected to reopen later Thursday night. Police have not announced any charges, and they have not said what remains under review.

Investigators write down the weather, lighting and road surface after every serious crash. Recording those details is routine and does not point to any single cause.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Alabama usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
