Pedestrian Killed in San Francisco Accident
A pedestrian was killed in an early morning hit-and-run on Ellis St. in San Francisco's Tenderloin, and his name has not been released.
A man was killed when a car struck him on Ellis St. in San Francisco's Tenderloin early in the morning, according to the San Francisco Police Department. The driver left the scene, police said. Officers later arrested a woman they said was driving the car.
What Happened on Ellis St. Overnight
Police were called to the 800 block of Ellis St. shortly after 1:05 a.m. on reports that a car had hit a pedestrian. Officers arrived to find a man hurt at the scene. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police are holding his name until his next of kin have been told.
Both the car and its driver were gone by the time officers got there, the department said. Investigators followed the car to Treasure Island, where California Highway Patrol officers had it pulled over for a traffic violation that police said was unrelated to the crash. San Francisco officers then arrested the woman who was driving, police said.
Where the San Francisco Police Investigation Stands
The woman was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of homicide, police said. Her name has not been released. The investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing. Police asked anyone with information to call the department at 415-575-4444.
A full investigation into a serious crash often takes weeks, and sometimes months. Investigators usually wait for vehicle data and lab results before they finish their report.

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
