How the Los Angeles Pedestrian Crash Unfolded

The collision happened on Saturday night. The officer was driving to a call at a Halloween party when the car hit a woman. She died. The road and the exact time of the crash have not been made public.

The woman has not been named in the confirmed information, and no one else has been reported hurt.

What Is Still Unknown After the Los Angeles Crash

No information has been released about charges or the findings of any investigation. Details about the woman and the circumstances of the crash have not been announced by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Many newer cars keep a short record of the moments around a crash. Investigators may download that data, and making sense of it can take weeks.

Lost someone in a crash like this?

Here is what families in California usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.

  2. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  3. Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.

  4. Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
