BSO investigating fatal pedestrian accident in the 1500 block of Northeast 26th Street

Troy Nichols, 61, of Wilton Manors, died after being struck by a vehicle on March 26 in Wilton Manors, Florida, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The fatal pedestrian accident happened in the 1500 block of Northeast 26th Street.

A 33-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado on Northeast 15th Avenue in the left turn lane. He turned left onto Northeast 26th Street and struck Nichols as he crossed the street in a designated crosswalk.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded and took Nichols to Broward Health Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries on April 2. Wilton Manors Police initially responded to the scene.

The Broward County Medical Examiner's Office advised the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit of the death on April 3. BSO detectives then took over the investigation at the request of Wilton Manors Police.

Traffic was affected in the area during the initial response and investigation.
