How to get your crash report in New Jersey

Not in New Jersey? Pick your state

The report names everyone involved and records what happened. Insurers rely on it, and any claim you make is built on it.

  1. 1

    Know what it's called

NJTR-1, the New Jersey Police Crash Investigation Report

Every police department in the state uses it, and files it electronically with the state Department of Transportation within 5 days of its investigation.

  2. 2

    Find where to request it

Crashes the State Police handled: the New Jersey State Police

Find the report on the State Police crash report site by case number, driver's license number, plate number or last name, then pay and download it. Turnpike and Garden State Parkway crashes are there too, under toll roads.

Open the State Police crash report site (opens in a new tab)

Atlantic City Expressway: the expressway authority

Write to Atlantic City Expressway Authority, P.O. Box 389, Hammonton, NJ 08037, or call (609) 965-7200 ext. 108.

Everywhere else: the town's police department that responded

Ask it in person, by mail or by fax. It must mail or fax you a copy if you ask, and may first want its request form and the fee.

The State Police site keeps reports for 6 years, and a download link works for 14 days.
