1 Killed, 2 Injured in San Jose Car Accident
The collision happened late at night on State Road 87, north of Capitol Expressway, and closed all northbound lanes for about 50 minutes.
One person was killed and two women were injured in a car crash on State Road 87 in San Jose on November 1.
The Night Crash on State Road 87
California Highway Patrol officers from San Jose responded at 11:05 p.m. to a spot north of Capitol Expressway. Investigators said a Honda with a 37-year-old San Jose resident at the wheel was going the wrong way on the road when it collided with a Rivian. One man died in the crash. The Rivian's driver, a 79-year-old woman, and its passenger, a 74-year-old woman, both of San Jose, were taken to a hospital with major injuries.
What the Highway Patrol Has Not Yet Released
Authorities have not released the names of any of the three people involved. Investigators have not said whether drugs or alcohol played a role. Every northbound lane was shut for about 50 minutes while emergency crews worked at the scene. No charges have been announced.
Many newer cars keep a short record of the moments around a crash. Investigators may download that data, and making sense of it can take weeks.
From an earlier interview. General commentary, not about this crash, and not legal advice.Affected by an accident like this?
Here is what people in California usually need, in the order it comes up.
Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.
Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
