1 Killed, 3 Injured in Bel‑Ridge Car Accident
Police said the crash happened just before 1:10 a.m. Sunday after a pursuit that began in O'Fallon, Illinois, and moved onto I-70.
The St. Louis County Police Department said one person was killed and three others were injured in a car crash in Bel-Ridge on Sunday that followed a police pursuit on I-70.
How the Car Crash in Bel-Ridge Unfolded
A department spokesperson said the pursuit began just before 1 a.m. Sunday in O'Fallon, Illinois, when O'Fallon officers pursued the driver, Jahlil A. Campbell-Williams, of St. Louis. Police said Campbell-Williams got on eastbound I-70, and the O'Fallon officers ended their pursuit near Mid-Rivers Mall. A Missouri state trooper later saw the car near Cave Springs, and police said it did not stop when the trooper tried to pull it over. Police said Campbell-Williams left the interstate at Natural Bridge Road just before 1:10 a.m. and struck another vehicle at Springdale Avenue. One person died, and three other people were hurt. Campbell-Williams and a second person in his vehicle were taken into custody.
What Comes Next After the Bel-Ridge Crash
Campbell-Williams was charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office with aggravated fleeing resulting in death, first-degree involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault. Four further counts of aggravated fleeing, each tied to a physical injury, were also filed against him. Police have not released the names of the person who died or the three people who were hurt.
Which agency investigates often depends on where the crash happened. Highway crashes are often handled by state police or highway patrol, and crashes on city streets by local officers.

Here is what families in Missouri usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
