The Morning Collision on Edwards Ridge Road

The driver who died has been identified as Megan Mazzoleni, 29, of Gnadenhutten. Troopers said the crash took place shortly before 8 a.m., a bit south of the Ridge Road Southeast intersection. Troopers said Mazzoleni was heading south in a Ford Focus when it went left of center and hit a northbound Kia Telluride head-on. The Kia's driver was a 43-year-old Port Washington woman. A 6-year-old boy was riding in the rear seat of each vehicle.

The Highway Patrol said both drivers had to be cut free with mechanical tools. The Tuscarawas County Coroner's Office pronounced Mazzoleni dead at the scene. The Port Washington woman was taken to Union Hospital by Uhrichsville EMS, and her condition was not immediately available. Investigators said both boys were properly restrained, and medical helicopters carried them to Akron Children's Hospital with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.

Where the Highway Patrol Investigation Stands

The Highway Patrol said its investigation is still going. Troopers said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a part. No charges have been announced.

People often hear very little from investigators in the first days after a crash. That quiet is normal while evidence is gathered, and it does not mean the case has stalled.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in Ohio usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
