2 Killed, 1 Injured in Boone County Car Accident
Two people from Elgin died and a child was hurt when a car overturned near Poplar Grove Road and Business Route 20 on Saturday night.
The driver, David Charles, 23, and a passenger, Mariah Tinajero, 21, both of Elgin, were killed in a car crash on Poplar Grove Road in Boone County on Saturday night. A child riding in the car was hurt.
The Night Crash on Poplar Grove Road
The Boone County Sheriff's Office was called just before 10:55 p.m. to Poplar Grove Road near Business Route 20 for a crash with injuries. Police believe a southbound 2014 Infiniti went off Poplar Grove Road just before an overpass. The car then hit a concrete guard rail and rolled several times before stopping in the backyard of a house on Indian Dancer Trail. Charles was taken to a hospital, where he died, and Tinajero was thrown from the car and died at the scene. A local resident pulled the child, who was strapped into a child safety seat, from the car, and police said the child is expected to recover.
Boone County Investigators Ask for Information
Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call 815-544-2144. A fundraiser has been started for Tinajero, whose employer, Fox Pediatric Dentistry, said she left behind a daughter. Her coworkers wrote that she cared for every patient and family at the practice.
Once a crash report is finished, the people involved and their families can usually request a copy from the agency that wrote it.
