The driver, Thomas Knight, 35, of Jane Lew, was critically injured in the crash, which was reported on Thursday afternoon. His wife and passenger, Aislinn Posey, died at the scene. Knight died over the weekend, which made him the second person killed.

Two small children who were riding with the couple were hurt, and both had minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle also had minor injuries.

What Is Known After the Buckhannon Crash

No charges have been announced, and no other party has been named. Authorities have not released further details about the investigation or about the other vehicle.

Investigators write down the weather, lighting and road surface after every serious crash. Recording those details is routine and does not point to any single cause.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in West Virginia usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your vehicle. Tow yards usually charge for every day a towed vehicle sits there.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
