Jose Trevino, 35, of Austin, Texas, was killed in a car crash on I-10 near Chiriaco Summit in Riverside County on October 31, according to the California Highway Patrol.
How the Head-On Crash on I-10 Unfolded
The crash happened at about 2:15 a.m., west of Box Canyon Road. The California Highway Patrol said Trevino was driving a Chevrolet Colorado east when it collided head-on with a Ford F-150 Raptor. The patrol said the Ford was traveling west in the eastbound lanes. Trevino died at the scene. The Ford's driver, a 41-year-old man from Yucaipa, suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center.
What the CHP Indio Area Office Is Examining
The CHP Indio Area office is still investigating the collision. The California Highway Patrol said it suspects alcohol may have been a factor. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office-Coroner's Bureau identified Trevino and said it had notified his family.
A full investigation into a serious crash often takes weeks, and sometimes months. Investigators usually wait for vehicle data and lab results before they finish their report.
