Grant County Fire District No. 8 Battalion Chief Doug Anderson was injured in a pedestrian crash near the intersection of Roads L Southwest and 24 Southwest in Grant County on Wednesday night, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.
The Night Scene on Roads L Southwest
The Grant County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Emergency crews were at the scene of an earlier traffic accident, helping contain an oil spill. Deputies said the driver, 33-year-old Jorge Ramirez-Suarez of Mattawa, went around a police barricade and hit Anderson in the leg with his car. Anderson reportedly had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Sheriff's officials said the driver did not stay and was found shortly afterward by Mattawa Police Department officers.
Where the Sheriff's Office Case Stands
Ramirez-Suarez was arrested and booked into the Grant County Jail. The Grant County Sheriff's Office said he was held for investigation of hit-and-run, vehicular assault and DUI. Charges are pending against him, and no further details have been released.
An arrest is not a conviction. The case moves through the courts, and the full process can take many months.

Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
